It all began on a hot summer day when our president, Masayuki Hayashi, was enjoying music with his headphones. As an avid headphone enthusiast, he soon realized that his ears were getting sweaty and uncomfortable. Hayashi had previously suffered from fungal ear infections due to long hours of headphone use, making him extremely sensitive about keeping his ears dry and comfortable. Determined to solve his sweaty ears problem, he, an engineer at a broadcasting equipment manufacturer back then, had an epiphany: headphones with built-in fans for ventilation. He quickly created a prototype using small fans. While it successfully prevented sweat, the fans were too noisy, sounding like a nearby propeller aircraft taking off, and it was impossible to enjoy the music. He didn't give up after the fan-equipped headphone failure. Instead, he attempted another approach by connecting the headphones and the fan with a tube to reduce noise. However, it still sounded like a Harley-Davidson engine running at 2000 RPM. This led him to realize that he needed to fundamentally change his idea. He then thought of putting a cover on the headphones using absorbent fabric to prevent sweat. He discovered that similar "headphone covers" already existed, but they had critical issues: being uncomfortable, unfashionable, or lacking flexibility. He decided to create the ideal headphone cover. In developing the new headphone cover, he focused on design. Using stretchable fabric and sewing on a flat elastic cord, he created a unique design that provided a perfect fit. He also sought a soft, supple material to ensure comfort during extended use. Ultimately, he chose Tencel, a durable yet thin fiber made primarily from eucalyptus trees. After one and a half years of trial and error, he completed "mimimamo" in the summer of 2014.
